The essential oil of Scots pine is indispensable in aromatherapy. The best essential oils of this type come mainly from central and southern France, where a great deal of attention is still paid to proper distillation methods: more precisely avoiding the collection of too much wood during harvesting (which provides a turpentine-like scent) and allowing the distillation process sufficient time (3 hours) to ensure maximum extraction. The soft balmy fragrance is exceptionally effective for respiratory problems, whether used separately or in synergy with, for example, Eucalyptus radiata or ravintsara. Diffusion and inhalation are the best application methods, although the oil can also be used in massages and in the bath. As well as its positive effect on the airways, it helps to combat fatigue and to relieve allergic reactions caused by insect bites.
