Top quality helichrysum contains at least 4 to 12% italidione (I, II, III), in addition to an average of 40% neryl acetate. The percentage of italidione in many helichrysum oils is often too low, making these oils considerably less effective. Helichrysum is ideal for applying immediately to bruises, sprains or bumps, thanks to its stimulating effect on the circulation. The oil can be diluted in a carrier oil, possibly together with wintergreen, German chamomile and other pain-reducing essential oils, but can also be applied in its pure form. It further has a regenerating effect on scars.
